Stephen Woodhead

Story

Stephen Woodhead
Many knew Stephen Woodhead as a passionate businessman of the Kununurra community; however, many are yet to learn the extensive fight Stephen endured over the past 18 months. Stephen was up against the odd of gastric adenocarcinoma, fighting the probabilities of 37.7% survival rate beyond five years, he was impacted by the extremely rare positioning of his cancer rendering surgical management incapable.
Stephen first noted symptoms in Aug 2022, in Stephen’s case, he continued to push and sourced further investigations on his own terms privately. Which in Stephens instance was an extremely lucky outcome, commencing chemotherapy in March 2023 (the time he received a call back for those much-needed lifesaving investigations publicly).
The whirlwind of appointments commenced following diagnosis in Jan 2023, resulting in Stephen and his partner, Angela, relocating to Queensland to seek treatment. Unfortunately, in July 2023 following his first round of chemotherapy, he too received the devastating news that the cancer had spread – within 6 weeks his fight for survival increased.
Stephen was his ‘own advocate’ for his medical care and had become a huge supporter of encouraging people to seek second opinions when it comes to their our own health and wellbeing. Stephen was fighting the fight, whilst up against some unfortunate odds and being the talking point of many medical conversations due to his rare case. He, however, remained positive and looking forward to the future with Angela and his family.
Unfortunately, March 2024, Stephen lost is battle to the debilitating disease, leaving behind devastated family and friends.
Please donate as able to improving research, survival rates and patient support. Half proceeds from the Kununurra Black Tie Charity Gala will be placed into this account.
